Want to help out at The Pond?

We often get questions about volunteering, and while we are not able to offer stable volunteer positions, we always appreciate and could use the help.

Aside from hosting and organizing a specific event –which you can always reach out to us about– here are some specific things that you could do if you wish!

There is absolutely no obligation to volunteer your time and energy in this way! This is simply for those looking to help. This list is compiled here for you to see clearly what makes sense with your skills and experience, and discover where we can meet in time and energy capacity, and ideas.

A list of things that need to be done!

    1. Help with setting up a web shop, that integrates with Squarespace and Pay Pal POS, like shopify f.ex.

    2. Setting up members: how to add it to the website, what the tiers can include.

    3. Website reorganization –tabs, pages, information.

    4. Set up online event registration system with tickets on a donation basis.

    1. Organize and host a polyamory book club.

    2. Organize and host a book club for casual readers (romance, contemporary, fantasy, comics).

    3. Send us suggest titles to have in stock. Especially needed right now is queer danish books and QTBIPOC titles.

    4. Reorganize the nonfiction section into smaller sub-genres based on theme and topic. Come with your suggestions!

    5. Make book recommendation posts for our instagram.

    6. Recommend a single book in any genre to be on display together with a personalized note of why you recommend this book.

    7. Find queer books that are only available online, that we can add to the ebooks catalogue.

  • These are things that concern the physical space, including renovations, accessibility and furniture.

    1. Aid and advice in making the space more accessible to the diversity of needs in our community, including but not exclusively, wheelchair accessible entrance, sensory accommodations, store guidance. (this also includes online presence accessibility).

    2. A better solution to the danish book section that allows for more books and better placement.

    3. Fixing speakers that connect to a record player -electrical experience required.

    4. Brainstorming about how we can re-organize the seating and intention for each room. Like moving furniture, changing the look, etc.

    5. Looking for a cabinet for the boardgames.

    6. Painting the wall/ceiling of the inner tiled room.

  • This is a list of events that have been requested and people are desiring. Taking on these events could look like, taking initiative to find people who would like to host, or organizing and hosting the events yourself or with a team.

    1. Movie clubs / movie nights

    2. Decolonize your electronics (finding more ethical alternate platforms together, jailbreaking your kindle, etc.)

    3. Comics networking

    4. Queer BIPOC meet-ups (could be themed, like discussions, book clubs, etc.) -you must be QTBIPOC yourself.

  • Aside from events, we are looking for opportunities to foster community, connect people, and have resources easily accessible to queer people who come through The Pond. These are some of our ideas, but if you have more, don’t hesitate to reach out.

    1. A zine that details an overview of resources for new in denmark/new to the community people. This can include vital guidence and resources, but also online groups, websites detailing events, queer groups, regular events etc. (f.ex. if you gather the information, we can design and print)

    2. Use our community board for anything you wish! This could be as simple as events, but also if you have a question, a thing you need help with or are looking for. Nothing is too small or too big to go on the board!

    3. Sign-up for being helpers at some of our events, like readings, release parties, board game club, movie nights. This would include setting up the space and being present for people attending in the form of care and accommodations. Please specify what type of events you’d be interested in.

If you have decided you’d like to offer your assistance in any of the above pursuits, or have an idea not listed –please fill out the form and we will reach out to you as soon as possible to coordinate and organize together.

Additional info

Payment

All events hosts and various tasks done by members of the community are done on a volunteer basis. We offer you a drink on the house as thank you. We do not do paid events, as it’s important to us that our events are accessible to everyone.

New Ideas

You’re very welcome to come to us with ideas, feedback, and wishes for The Pond –whether it is something you’d like to personally organize/initiate or an idea you’d like to see come into fruition. The Pond is just a space and we want it to evolve into what is needed.

Communication

We prefer all communication to go through email. If this is not possible for you, you can also reach us on instagram and discord, or visit us physically in the bookstore café.

Evolve with us

The Pond has been shaped by the queer people who have approached us about hosting events, selling their art in the shop, and expressing their wishes to us. If you’d like to see something happen, the best way is to reach out, talk to us, express your needs and interests.
