Don’t have much time for reading? Afraid to commit to a whole book? Still want to read queer fiction and chat about it? Welcome to Short Story Club: Closer Look!
Every month, we read a short story by an LGBTQIA+ author in English (1-50 pages long) and discuss it within queer community using some fun techniques, such as freewriting. Taking a closer look, we delve deeper to learn what the story is about, how we interpret it, why it’s written the way it is, and what it makes us think and feel. A piece of fiction has as many versions as it has readers, so let’s meet and share our own!
Short Story Club is a perfect place for:
- readers who can’t commit to a longer text
- readers who can't stop committing to texts both long and short
- writers who wants to learn from other authors through critical/reflective reading
- queer folks excited to read more queer fiction
- (ex-)students who want to do more critical reading in a safe environment
- short stories fans!! what??
Our first club meeting will take place on January 30th and we’re going to yap about “Ron, Howard” by the fantastic Cindy Phan (free to read online thanks to Baffling Magazine). If you feel like reading it beforehand, hooray! Give it a go. If not, double hooray! Because we’ll read it together at the beginning of our meeting.
