Short Story Club: Closer Look!

Don’t have much time for reading? Afraid to commit to a whole book? Still want to read queer fiction and chat about it? Welcome to Short Story Club: Closer Look!

Every month, we read a short story by an LGBTQIA+ author in English (1-50 pages long) and discuss it within queer community using some fun techniques, such as freewriting. Taking a closer look, we delve deeper to learn what the story is about, how we interpret it, why it’s written the way it is, and what it makes us think and feel. A piece of fiction has as many versions as it has readers, so let’s meet and share our own!

Short Story Club is a perfect place for:
- readers who can’t commit to a longer text
- readers who can't stop committing to texts both long and short
- writers who wants to learn from other authors through critical/reflective reading
- queer folks excited to read more queer fiction
- (ex-)students who want to do more critical reading in a safe environment
- short stories fans!! what??

Our next club meeting will take place on February 27th and we’re going to delve into “Seasons of Glass and Iron,” a queer fairy tale by the awesome Amal El-Mohtar. The story takes a bit under an hour to read, which makes it a perfect fit for a couple of train rides/lunch breaks/lazy mornings.

Read the story here: https://www.uncannymagazine.com/article/seasons-glass-iron/

Content warnings: domestic abuse, misogyny.

Grab a cute pen for your notes and come join us!

P.S. We share The Pond’s book values. Trans rights are human rights. Free Palestine. Fuck white imperialism.
